Yu-Ting Tsai,
( b.1999, Changhua, Taiwan ) is an artist who lives and works in Taipei.
The practice moves across nature, history, technology, and corporeality. With a background in Mechanical Engineering and later training in New Media Art through an MFA, the work integrates technological systems within installation and moving-image practices.
Working across video, installation, photography, and mixed media, the practice is grounded in lived experience, exploring questions of selfhood, spirits, place, and history. Through diverse processes of research and making, the work examines how these experiences shape individuals and generate multiple forms of subjectivity.
In the video works, the artist often appears within the image as both observer and participant, destabilizing fixed distinctions between subject and narrative while complicating relationships between presence, documentation, and embodiment.
A key methodology within the practice is topological thinking. The works create multiple points of entry where fiction intersects with historical research and lived experience, generating layered narrative structures in which fact and imagination coexist. Through these entanglements, the practice explores how identities, memories, and histories are continuously produced, transformed, and reconfigured.
2024, Established "Video Art Guerrilla" with seven artists, Establish a screening platform independently and taking screenings and exhibitions outside institutions, using images to intervene in the public space, and respond to the image situation in contemporary society.
蔡昱廷，
1999年生於彰化，居住與工作於台北。創作語彙多結合自然、科技、歷史等不同知識領域，以此建構多重角度的觀看。媒材跨及裝置、錄像、攝影與複合媒材。
創作核心源自於生命經驗，自我角色、精神、地方、歷史的挖掘與辨認，著重於身體感、技術介入與個體多重主體性的形塑過程，在不同慾望以及問題意識下所產生的不同樣貌。
拓樸思維是其創作實踐的關鍵方法論。透過多元化的研究和創作過程，作品創造了多個切入點，使虛構與歷史研究和生活經驗交織，建構出層次豐富的敘事結構，使事實與想像並存。透過這些交織，藝術家探索身分、記憶和歷史如何不斷地被生產、轉化和重建。
在錄影作品中，藝術家常以觀察者和參與者的雙重身分出現在畫面中，打破了主體與敘事之間固有的界限，並模糊了在場、記錄和身體參與之間的關係。
2024年與七位藝術家一同成立『錄像游擊隊』，自主建立放映平台，以機構之外的放映與展覽作為行動，以影像介入公眾場域，回應當代社會中的影像景況。
